Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund

The Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund project has come to a conclusion with a very large cheque being presented to R.W.Bro. Aaron Orr D.D.G.M. of Hamilton Masonic District “B”. To the Brethren who attended and the Brethren who had other important commitments and missed the presentation, you can be very proud of what your District can achieve when called on to assist Brother’s in distress.

The generosity of the District “B” Lodges and the Brethren was overwhelming. Your support in extending the hand of fellowship when asked to contribute to our American Brothers, in the southern United States of Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi will be greatly appreciated. Your contributions will be sent directly to the Masonic Service Association of North America to be divided equally between the three Grand Lodge Jurisdictions. Our contributions will go directly towards helping our Brothers to rebuild or refurbishing their Masonic Lodges. There will be absolutely no administrative costs for this appeal by the M.S.A.

Brethren again I thank you as your Benevolent Chairman and May the G.A.OT.U. Bless each and every one of you for opening up your hearts and extending brotherly love to all Brothers that are in need of our assistance.

Benevolent Chairman

W.Bro. David Gibson Sr

BrethrenThe Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund project is rapidly coming to a close on December 31, 2005. The conclusion of this project will be the presentation of our Hamilton Masonic District “B” lodges donation, which will take place on Tuesday, January 17th, 2006 to R.W.Bro. Aaron R. Orr. This presentation will take place at Wentworth Lodge A.F. & A.M. No. 166 G.R.C place Stoney Creek Masonic Hall, time 7:30 p.m. This will be a very special evening for all members of Hamilton Masonic District “B”. We have called this the Bond of Fellowship evening as T. H. Simpson Lodge No. 692 and Wentworth Lodge No. 166 will have a candidate from each lodge receiving their 2nd Degree. I believe this will be an exciting moment not only for the candidates but for all members of Hamilton Masonic District “B” and especially both Lodges. Also we will be extending the hand of fellowship in assisting our American Masonic Brothers in the southern United States with a generous donation towards helping them to rebuild or refurbishing their Masonic Lodges. I also personally like to thank all members of all the Lodges for your generous contributions and support in making the Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund project a complete success for Hamilton Masonic District “B”. I believe this a step towards all our lodges working from the same page and by so doing strengthening our District.

Sincerely & Fraternally,

HURRICANE RELIEF

Brethren,

In response to the numerous enquiries of relief regarding Hurricane Katrina, the following information is provided for your assistance.

Unfortunately, disasters such as Hurricane Katrina occur in various stages of severity throughout the United States on a yearly basis (seven to date).

It is the practice of your Grand Lodge to support such tragedies through the Masonic Service Association of North America (M.S.A.). On September 8, 2005, this office received, from M.S.A,.an appeal for relief covering the Grand Lodges of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

To assist our Masonic brethren, contributions can be made, cheques payable to: ‘MSA Disaster Relief Fund’, and sent to: Masonic Service Association, 8120 Fenton Street, Silver Spring, MD 20910-4785.

Tax receipts for individual donations are not available through our Masonic Foundation as all such contributions must be earmarked for Ontario causes..

Donations for general relief can be made through a variety of agencies both in Canada and the United States.

Fraternally yours

Terence Shand
Grand Secretary

A Letter from our District B Benevolence Chairman

September 22, 2005

Brethren:

In response to the many enquires and already the collection of some monies by District “B” lodges regarding the Hurricane Katrina disaster. The Grand Lodge of Canada in the Province of Ontario issued the following statement to all D.D.G.M.’s. It is the practice of your Grand Lodge to support such tragedies through the Masonic Service Association of North America. On September 8, 2005, our Grand Lodge office received, from M.S.A.N.A. an appeal for relief covering the Grand Lodges of Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama.

Being the inquisitive type I did a little research on the Masonic Service Association of North America and found the following information to be very impressive. When a natural disaster occurs, the Grand Jurisdiction(s) affected may request the M.S.A. to make an appeal for assistance to all U.S. and Canadian Grand Lodges.

Masonic Service Association first disaster relief appeal was in 1923 to help the victims of an earthquake in Japan. Since that time more than 50 appeals with a total dollar value of $6,354,000.00 U.S. have been made on behalf of individual Grand Lodges. When a disaster relief appeal is made, all of the monies received are sent, in their entirety, to the Grand Jurisdiction involved. No portion of donated funds is retained by the M.S.A. for any reason whatsoever. All costs connected with the appeal are absorbed through their regular operating budget. All donated funds are given to help the recovery within the Grand Jurisdiction for whom the appeal was made. Also, every gift is acknowledged by the Masonic Service Association of North America.

At our District “B” Team meeting I was asked by R.W.Bro. Aaron Orr, to look into the possibility of setting up a Hurricane Katrina Relief Fund for District “B”. Well Brethren it is being launched as I speak. Emails and letters will be sent to all Worshipful Masters and Lodge Secretaries next week. In this letter there will be a benevolent appeal from District “B” for their lodge’s financial support. This project will run for three months and at the conclusion in January 2006, all monies collected will be presented to R.W.Bro. Aaron Orr. Who in turn will give it to the District Treasurer V.W.Bro. Louis Domjan for distribution to the Masonic Service Association of North America. This money will be sent on behalf of the Brethren of Hamilton Masonic District “B”. As you may or may not be aware of there unfortunately is no tax receipt issued for this donation, as it is going directly to another country. It is a direct appeal from one Brother to another Brother in need of your assistance to rebuild their Masonic endeavors.

I know that are hands are reaching into your pockets and it seems ever so frequent. But Brethren I appeal to your generosity and please remember how you were first received into Masonry, poor and penniless, neither naked nor clothed, barefoot nor shod; and you will then cheerfully embrace the opportunity of practicing that virtue you now profess to admire.

Brethren thank you for your patience and support of our American Brethren in the southern states.

Sincerely & Fraternally,

W.Bro. David Gibson Sr.

Dictrict B Chairman of Benevolence
